Are you totally clear about your goals? And how about the younger people around you?
How do you measure how successful you are?
Is it by how much money you have, how much you work, how many cars you have or maybe by how many friends you have?
You see, we all measure it in different ways, counting different things. That`s all natural of course since we are individuals.
When I used to work around young soccerplayers and other young kids in schools etc this thing clearly stood out to me - the difference in how they measured success.
I didnt quite realize it back then but as the years have gone by and I can look back and also compare where they ended up as young adults I can see some differences between them.
Of course, all the soccerplayers wanted to be professional players as their first option, but other then that they also could mention other things.

Some of them said that they would keep on studying on a higher level, and the majority of those who said so have done just that.
They`ve studied law, medicine and so on.
Others had a bit lower expectations. As of plans for the future they mentioned "Getting a job and provide for myself and my family", most of them did that actually, they reached their "goal".
Then, there were this group of youngsters, that when you asked them where they were going in life they only said; "Rich" or "I want to become someone who will get respect". However, they could never say how rich, there were no way of measuring what they wanted to achieve.
If this was a sunshinestory the last group of kids would now have been making careers as politicians or CEO`s or something.

Well, it breaks my heart but that`s not how it happened.
Those were smart kids, get me right here, creative, all of them had something to give to the world. They were generous towards those who took the time to listen to them and who, sincerely, showed that they cared about them. But they were also lost. "Getting rich" is a great goal to have I suppose, but unless you know how you will achieve that it can be a devastating goal as well.
I`m not saying it`s impossible, I dont even belive in the word "impossible" itself, but if you cant even see the starting line in a "get rich-race" and you lack a map of the track, how will you achieve that goal?
A lot of kids out there doesnt know what they want to do with their future, and that`s ok -if you dont know who you are as an individual yet, how will you know what you want to work with?

But, maybe, just maybe, us adults should get better att making kids belive that they do have a chance of finding a way forward and put words in that describe that way to them?
This, of course, without deciding for them what they want -they need to do that themselves.
The last group of kids that I mentioned by the way they ended up getting a crime sheet.

One of them got shot down a cold, dark night when he was hanging out with his friends. And it broke my heart. I choose to remember his smile and he is one of those whose destiny made me change my choice of career completely.
I`m not saying that by having a "good" goal noone will turn to crime or drugs, but I am saying that just maybe we didnt have to loose so many kids into that world if they had dreams that they could belive in or measure.
Take Care, and remember to set your own goals as well.
